Let's talk about art together!

CREATIVE EXCHANGE

Nature and effect of material and technique

Whether in sculpture or painting, the choice of material, a particular painting technique and a suitable support is a matter of expression, style and aesthetics. Depending on the use, the requirements for the properties of the material vary and each technique has its own personality and impact.

CURIOUS ABOUT MATERIALS?

Oil painting

Oil painting is striking for its vivid colours and extraordinary depth of detail. Thanks to the long drying time of oil paints, artists can work with this technique for a longer period of time and create more complex masterpieces. In addition, its material density immerses the viewer in a unique visual and sensual experience.

Please note: all the art copies presented on this website are "artistic reproductions" and therefore are not original works, but seek to resemble them in effect and sometimes in technique; they have been entirely painted, drawn, modelled or sculpted by Maria Vittoria di Montegnacco and are of different sizes from the original works.

Water-based techniques

The variety of techniques that use water as a solvent offers creative freedom and different effects. Watercolour creates transparent and luminous layers, tempera creates opaque colours. Pigments with acrylic binders and silicate colours offer modern variations. Frescoes are characterised by the long life of the wall painting, but require a complex technical process.

The medium

The choice of medium has a significant impact on the work.
Paper is easy to handle and allows for subtle variations, while canvas is a classic option with texture. Masonry as a background for painting offers particular challenges and a lasting presence. The type of medium determines the desired aesthetic, and processing times vary depending on the size, material and technique chosen. Murals generally take longer.

Stone

Properties:

Stone sculptures are distinguished by their timeless beauty, robustness and creative versatility. However, their weight, demanding workmanship and sensitivity to environmental influences pose certain challenges.

Processing time: long

Stone processing, especially high-quality stone such as Carrara marble, often requires a lengthy approach due to the hardness of the material and the precision work required to model the details.

Clay

Property

Clay is extremely malleable and gives surfaces a visual and tactile dimension of vibrant depth and extreme personality. Its fragile consistency when wet and the precision required for firing demand particular attention.

Processing time: low

Clay is a flexible material and generally requires less time to mould and work with than stone or plaster.

Chalk

Properties:
Plaster creations are distinguished by their fine details, low production costs and lightness. The sensitivity to moisture and fragility of this material must be taken into account.

Processing time: medium-long

Generally, plaster allows sculptures to be created relatively quickly compared to stone, thanks to its mouldability and rapid setting time.

My works are born from colours, shapes and emotions that I want to share. If looking at them speaks to you, if you are curious or simply want to exchange a few words, please write to me. Every message is a small encounter that makes art even more alive.
